Scrolling screenshots on every platform, compared

Short answer
On iPhone, take a screenshot in Safari and switch the preview from Screen to Full Page, then save it as a PDF. On Android, take a screenshot and tap Capture more or Scroll capture where your phone supports it. Firefox has Take Screenshot with Save full page, and Edge has Web Capture. All of them are limited to their own browser and produce a single fixed output, which is why a Chromium extension is still the most flexible route on the desktop.
iPhone and iPad: full page, but only as PDF in Safari
Take a normal screenshot in Safari, tap the thumbnail in the corner, and choose Full Page instead of Screen at the top of the editor. iOS rebuilds the whole scrolling page and lets you save it to Files as a PDF or share it.
Two catches. The result is a PDF, not an image, so pasting it into a chat as a picture means converting it first. And Full Page appears in Safari and a few other apps only: in most third-party apps you get the visible screen.
- Works: long articles, documentation, receipts and order pages in Safari.
- Does not work: most native apps, and anything where you need a PNG rather than a PDF.
- Chromium extensions do not exist on iOS, so no extension can add this on an iPhone.
Android: scroll capture, if your phone has it
Most recent Android phones show a Capture more, Scroll capture or Scroll shot button in the screenshot preview. It stitches while you drag a handle down the page, and it works inside apps as well as in the browser.
It is a manufacturer feature rather than a guaranteed part of Android, so availability, naming and quality differ per brand and version. Long pages often need several passes, and sticky headers can show up more than once.
Firefox: Take Screenshot with Save full page
Right-click anywhere on a page in Firefox and choose Take Screenshot, then Save full page. Firefox renders the entire document to a PNG without any add-on, which is genuinely convenient.
What you do not get is an editor, format choice, or any handling of app layouts where a panel scrolls instead of the document. There is also no built-in way to split a very tall page into readable parts.
Edge: Web Capture, plus Chromium extensions
Edge has Web Capture (Ctrl + Shift + S) with a full page option, simple markup, and copying to the clipboard. For quick captures it is often enough.
Edge also runs Chrome Web Store extensions, so if you need smart scroll container detection, format choice or numbered parts, you can install the same extension you would use in Chrome.
Chrome: DevTools or an extension
Chrome can do it without an extension through DevTools: open DevTools, press Ctrl + Shift + P (Cmd + Shift + P on macOS), type screenshot and choose Capture full size screenshot. It is free, built in, and fiddly enough that few people repeat it more than twice.
An extension turns it into one click or one shortcut, and adds the things the built-in routes skip: detecting the scroll container in app layouts, handling sticky headers, annotating before sending, exporting PNG, JPEG, WebP or PDF, and splitting very tall pages into overlapping parts.
A quick verdict per situation
None of these options is wrong. They serve different moments.
- On a phone, use what the phone offers. No extension can change that on iOS.
- For one occasional capture in Firefox or Edge, use the built-in option and move on.
- For daily captures, annotation, format control and app layouts, use a Chromium extension on the desktop.
- For anything you must archive or print, export a PDF, whichever route you took.
Frequently asked questions
- How do I take a scrolling screenshot on an iPhone?
- Take a screenshot in Safari, tap the preview thumbnail, then choose Full Page at the top. You can save the whole scrolling page to Files as a PDF or share it. Full Page is available in Safari and a few other apps, not everywhere.
- Can I get a PNG of a full page on iPhone instead of a PDF?
- Not directly. The Full Page option in iOS produces a PDF. You can convert it afterwards, or capture the same page on a desktop browser when you need an image.
- Does Firefox take full page screenshots without an add-on?
- Yes. Right-click the page, choose Take Screenshot, then Save full page. Firefox saves a PNG of the whole document. There is no editor, no format choice and no handling of panels that scroll instead of the page.
- How do I screenshot a whole page in Microsoft Edge?
- Press Ctrl + Shift + S for Web Capture and choose the full page option. Edge also supports Chrome Web Store extensions, so you can install GoFullScreenshot in Edge for smart scroll detection and more export formats.
- Do all Android phones support scroll capture?
- No. It is a manufacturer feature, so the button, its name and its quality vary per brand and Android version. Where it is missing, there is no system-wide replacement.
- Does GoFullScreenshot work on iPhone or Android?
- No. It is a Chromium extension for desktop Chrome, Edge and Brave on Windows, macOS, Linux and ChromeOS. Mobile browsers do not support desktop extensions.
